WeCare Wales shines a light on what working in social care, early years and childcare is really like.
The campaign is a collaboration between Social Care Wales and leading organisations representing social care, early years and childcare in Wales, as well as other national bodies involved in job-seeking and careers advice.
It is part of a long-term strategy to develop the workforces in the care and health sectors over the next decade, to provide a high-quality, seamless service to the people of Wales.
The campaign highlights the breadth of career opportunities in care, from childminders and nursery practitioners to home care co-ordinators and care home managers. Currently, around one in 17 adults in Wales works in social care or early years and childcare (around 113,000 people), making it a bigger employer than the NHS.
The WeCare campaign aims to show the variety of roles and career progression opportunities available. By using real care workers, the campaign focuses on the challenges they face, as well as what makes their work rewarding and worthwhile.

Introduction to Social Care training
WeCare are running a funded training programme for people interested in working in social care called an Introduction to social care.
The three-day training is available for anyone living in Wales and it will take place on-line.
The training days are once a week for a period of three weeks with a workbook to complete.
The times are from 10am – 2:30pm.
The training will cover the essentials you need to start working in social care such as communication, safeguarding and working practices. When you start working in the sector, you will also receive extra support and training from your employer.

Care Ambassador Programme
The Care Ambassador programme raises the profile of social care, and early years and childcare. Care Ambassadors help educate people about the rewarding and different career options and progression opportunities available to them.
The role of a Care Ambassador might involve:
- Speaking to students in schools or colleges in your area
- Informal talks or discussions in local communities
- Attending career events and conferences
